Vintage WOOD FINIAL - Newel post cap - Cannonball - HUGE

WHOA!  Now THIS is a finial!  This came from my (architect) late husband’s office. He was always coming in with old building parts so I don’t know where it originated.  It is a fabulous piece with small superficial dings, which is to be expected from a vintage piece. I have often wondered how many hands have landed on this when going up the stairs. Personally, I find this patina most desirable.
This finial has a lovely turned base.  It is 7” in diameter, 10.5” high, and it weighs over 3.5 pounds.....it’s a beast!
I’m not sure of the wood species but to me, it leans toward a cherry color. The finish is in pretty good condition.
