Description
This coin was issued in the period of theThree Brothers
(AH 646-655, 1248-1257 AD),
in
Seljuqs of Rum,
Asia Minor, now Turkey.
It was minted in AH 651 (
1253 AD
) in
Kayseri City
in central Anatolia.
Seljuqs of Rum was a Sunni Muslim rules state. The name
"Rum"
means
"Romans".
The sultanate was called "Rum" because it was built on the
former territory of the Byzantine Empire
.
The forces of Mongol Empire took Erzurum in 1242 and in 1243, the sultan was
crushed by Baiju
in battle
of Kose Dag, and the Seljuq Turks were forced to
swear allegiance
to the Mongols and
became their vassals
.
The Seljuqs realm was
divided
among Kaykhusraw's
three sons
.
[The above explanations are quoted from Wikipedia etc.]
