ANTIQUE VICTORIAN-ERA DIAMOND POINT
CRYSTAL NEWEL POST BANISTER FINIAL
Available for purchase is an antique Victorian-era crystal newel post finial. The finial is egg-shaped with a "diamond-point" design. The top has facets cut in a rayed pattern. I believe the diamond pattern was blown molded, but I'm not completely certain (no visible seams). The bottom sits on a brass base that has threads inside. The piece stands about 6 1/4" tall (including the base) and measures approximately 4" wide near the center.
There are no manufacturer markings, but very similar finials have been attributed to Baccarat Glass in France. Baccarat made a diamond-point design they called "Marie Louise". Other glass manufacturers also made this toothed diamond design, including the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in Massachusetts. Regardless of the manufacturer, this crystal is old and it has a faint yellow glow under a black light. Most likely, this finial was made during the mid to late 19th century for a luxurious home.
I purchased this piece at a recent estate sale. It's guaranteed to be an antique crystal newel post finial and NOT a modern knockoff. Please check my positive feedback and buy with confidence from a trusted seller.
Condition of this newel post finial is EXCELLENT. When examined with a hand lens, I noticed a few very tiny nicks on several of the sharp diamond points. But nothing noticeable with the naked eye. There are also a few scratches on the smooth area near the base. Overall, this newel post finial looks fantastic and displays beautifully. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. I'm confident you'll be very pleased with this purchase.
