1973 Pontiac Trans am Super Duty 455 #'s Match 53k miles 1-Owner Documented PHS
CMC is pleased to offer another legendary muscle car in our showroom. This is a documented 1-Owner 1973 Trans am Super Duty 455 with only 53,487 Actual Miles. This all numbers matching muscle machine was ordered brand new at VanderZee Buick-Pontiac, INC on March 27th,1973 by the original owner who has retained ownership for the the cars entire life. Fully documented from new and being only one of 180 built with the Hydramatic, this car would be hard to duplicate.
It has been told that original owner, a West Michigan enthusiast, was debating on buying a new car or picking up a slightly used 1965 Shelby Cobra. By 1973, the prices on the real Cobra's were pushing k, which was more than he wished to spend. Luckily for Pontiac lovers, he walked into VanDerZee Buick-Pontiac of South Haven, Michigan in the spring of '73. In our possession and accompanying this acquisition, is the original, hand-written Bill of Sale, signed by dealership owner, Raymond VanDerZee. We also have the original title, dating back to January 11, 1977, the day he paid off the lien. The base price of the car was , 203.75 with a destination fee added on top. However, after a laundry list of added options, including the most important Super Duty Engine, the total delivered price came to a staggering , 027.20.
Pontiac installed that engine, their top performance powerplant, in only 252 vehicles. At the time, the original owner knew he had ordered a nicely optioned muscle car but no one could predict how special that car would end up being. Five months later, he took delivery of his brand new Trans Am the first week of August, 1973.
There is a hand-written prices on the order form match the prices on the PHS window sticker. The car was ordered with the following options:
    Buccaneer Red (code R) B
    Black Vinyl interior (code 361).
Lamp Group (.00), AM Radio (.00)
    8-Track Stereo (0.00)
    Center Console (.00),
    Roof Moulding (.00),
    Trans Am Hood Decal (.00)
    Tinted Glass (.00)
    Electronic Defroster (.00)
    Ram-Air Hood (.00)
    Power Windows (.00)
    Delco Battery (.00)
    GR70x15 Honeycomb Wheels (.00)
Last but certainly not least is the 1.00 up charge for the 4bbl 455 Super Duty motor (code X).
All of the PHS documentation confirms exactly what the original documentation shows.
John Hansen of Michigan Automotive Inspection Services confirmed that the engine, transmission, and differential casting numbers are all correct for this car. He verified ALL of the numbers are correct. . Mr. Hansen even used a borescope camera to verify a hidden VIN stamping behind the firewall. This car is as correct as one would expect from a 1-Owner collector car.
    Documentation includes:
    Original Title
Original Bill of Sale from VanderZee Buick-Pontiac, Inc.
    Original Owner's Manual
    Operating Instructions Book
    Maintenance Schedule Pamphlet
    PHS Documentation
    PHS Window Sticker
Original 1973 "Super Duty 455" Dealer Service Bulletin
Mechanically the Super Duty is what you would expect from a 1-Owner 53k mile car. The Trans am runs and drives incredible and has a ton of power. The original XD engine was rebuilt in 2000 to original specs. The car has been very well serviced and maintained. The car is very tight and has no rattles. The original "PQ" code Hydramatic transmission shifts well. The car sounds amazing and is an absolute blast to drive.
Restoration was performed approximately 10 years ago. The excellent original body was striped to bare metal and a show quality paint job was applied in the original color Buccaneer Red. All new decals were applied as new. The original floor boards are still wearing the original red oxide primer showing just how solid and original that this car was. The underside is in remarkable condition. The interior has had new seat covers and carpets installed along with a new rear package tray. The rest of the interior is original and in outstanding condition. The original radio is still installed and the all the gauges are clean and crisp. The original wheels were restored including the matching spare tire. The correct GR70-15 tires are installed. The end result is an absolutely stunning Trans am SD 455.
If you are in the market for a very special muscle car that would be nearly impossible to duplicate, you have found it. Being 1-Owner fully documented 53k actual miles, and 1 of 180 built, this opportunity will not come around often.
